Jubilee trounces KANU in Kericho [News Bulletin]

- Aaron Cheruiyot is the new senator elect for Kericho County after he garnered 109, 358 votes in Monday's by-election, beating four other candidates.
The Jubilee Alliance Party candidate was followed at a wide distance by KANU's Kipkorir Arap Sang who got 56, 307 votes.

Cheruiyot urged his competitors to respect the will of the people, after KANU challenged the outcome over allegations of numerous mal-practices during the exercise.

In Malindi, ODM’s William Mtengo won in the polls with 15,582 votes against 9,243 garnered by Philip Charo of JAP in the 100 centres.

The other contenders in the race include Attas Sharif Ali of LPK who got 1,547 votes and Reuben Katana of KADU Asili with 353 votes.

Counting of ballots got underway promptly after polls closed at 5pm in a day that was marked by counter-claims of voter bribery.

- The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Issack Hassan, is at the Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission offices over the Chicken gate scandal.

The IEBC boss is the latest official to be summoned by the anti-graft agency investigating bribery claims, by a UK firm that was contracted to supply electoral materials used in the last General Election.

The EACC expects to submit its file on the scandal to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, following the questioning.

The main suspect in the scam, Trevy O-yombra, Commissioner, Yusuf Nzibo, former Chief Executive Officer, James Oswago and former commissioner, Davis Chirchir have appeared before the Commission.

The tribunal set up to investigate Supreme Court Judge Philip Tunoi will start work next week.

The tribunal chairman Sharad Rao says the team has already developed rules and procedures guiding its work as they prepare to start the sittings.

Rao says it will be up to Justice Tunoi's decide whether the proceedings should be private or public as outlined in the Judicial Service Act.
